So, a lot of the time, I'm really happy that I can end a year and start fresh. Like 2003... that was a rough year. I was glad it was over. This week since Christmas I've been doing some reflecting, you know, knowing new year's is coming. I decided that I'm a little sad that 2005 is ending. On the whole, its been a really good year. I hated my school life a little bit for a while. And it started kinda rough. But on the whole... 2005 was very good. Don't get me wrong, I AM glad I get to start fresh... but still.
Normally, I go to a New Year's Eve service at my church, where basically we're supposed to repent of stuff in the last year and be able to start the New Year fresh spiritually as well as physically. Then everyone goes home except the young people and we stay and play games all night and usher in the new year by playing mafia and manhunt. But, the youth group didn't do that this year, so I went to New Brunswick... I didn't go to church (heathen!) but I'm ok with that... I can wipe my slate clean with God in church or out of it... I don't need a worship leader with a guitar to help me.
So in New Brunswick, Anissa, Brittany, James, and Steve came over. Andrew stopped by for a little bit too. We ate, and ate, and gave each other massages, and ate, and then watched Penn & Teller, then the ball dropped and we drank sparkling cider, and then on tv the news anchors kissed and that was when I remembered the blog entry I wrote about mistletoe. Is that a thing you're supposed to do too? Kiss into the New Year? I can't remember. I think it is. Anyway... not important. Back to Penn & Teller. We watched until like 4 am and then we put in mystery science theater. Brit went to sleep but for 4ish hours it was the four of us squished onto the couch. It was such a nice cozy way to bring in the New Year, probably one of the best I've had. Good friends sitting together in comfort, good food (Anissa made cinnamon rolls), and then at 7 we went to the Omega diner and the sun was so beautiful.
I think the sun on New Year's is always beautiful. By law. Some unspoken law of nature dictates that the clouds have to be just right and the humidity has to reflect the light in a certain way. Its like having a white Christmas, only its a little more dependable.
So I slept for a little bit but Mel and Sam came in from NYC and woke me up, so it was the second "night" in a row I got 4 hours of sleep. I think I'll go back to bed.
